Liz Kirke Foundation ♡

What is Chi-O Corndogs?

Chi-O corndogs is our annual fundraiser hosted in the fall to raise money in support of our philanthropy, The Liz Kirke Foundation. The total money raised during the event goes towards a College of Design Scholarship in honor of Elizabeth Kirke. Our carnival-like theme consisted of a variety of delicious food, music, mingling, and a crowd favorite “Pie a Chi!”

Elizabeth Kirke

Elizabeth Kirke was an active member of Chi Omega at Iowa State University from 1982 to 1986 and served as the recruitment chair during her senior year. Later that year, Liz was diagnosed with a heart condition called pulmonary hypertension. Less than four months after she was diagnosed, Liz passed away in January of 1986. The Eta Beta chapter of Chi Omega fundraises money to help fund a scholarship that honors Liz. The scholarship is given to a design student at Iowa State University each year, based on certain qualifications such as GPA or financial need for the scholarship. As a chapter we are so grateful to be able to help fun this scholarship and honor Liz’s memory within Chi Omega and at Iowa State University.

The Menu

This year’s menu consisted of a variety of items ranging from mini corn dogs to fresh movie theater popcorn and cookies. A crowd favorite landed on the cotton candy as our Chi Omega sisters made the magic happen at the machine. The buffet style set-up allowed our guests to go through the line and grab what sounded good. We were so happy to welcome people into our home to join us for the event!

Our Experience

The week leading up to the event, the Eta Beta chapter had the opportunity to listen to Liz Kirke’s younger sister, Katie, share her sister’s story and experience at Chi Omega Eta Beta. With nothing but positive and inspiring words, our fellow sisters left the room feeling all the love from Katie, and having a better sense of who Liz Kurke truly was. Liliana (Lil) Waters, Liz’s “little sister” during her time in Chi Omega, also shared her memories with Liz. We are forever grateful for our connections and opportunities to learn more about Liz Kirke and the legacy she has left at Chi Omega Iowa State.

Philanthropy Chair

“I am deeply honored to have had the opportunity to organize such an incredible event in tribute to Liz Kirke. The dedication and time invested in planning this event become truly worthwhile when I got to see the unity of so many people gathered to raise money towards the Liz Kirke Foundation Scholarship.”

- Elle Sneller, PC ‘20

Philanthropy Assistant

“My favorite part about being the philanthropy chair assistant would be the opportunity to make a positive impact on the community by assisting with leading a committee and making sure the philanthropy runs smoothly. Getting to speak with the family and see the impact it had on them was what made it all worth it.”

- Arley Landau, PC '21

Our Favorite Parts

I love seeing all the people come in the door and the house fills up. It’s always such good energy and it’s so nice to see the community come together for a good cause!
— Josie Hyatt, PC '21
My favorite part about the event is seeing all of the socialization aspects occur at our house and being able to honor such an amazing woman as Liz Kurke.
— Sophia Kouba, PC '22
I really enjoy this philanthropy because we get to see everyone come together to support the Liz Kurke foundation and being able to talk to people from different chapters.
— Abby Johnson, PC '22
